Phyllis Austin has a passion for excellence in education.  A former administrator and teacher, Phyllis Austin has been in the education field for over 18 years.

Phyllis Austin grew up in Chicago, Illinois were she graduated from Lindblom Technical High School.  She earned her B.S. degree from Howard University in 1986.  After graduating from Howard University, she worked for several companies as a Microbiologist and Chemist.  Out of a need for Science teachers, she began teaching in Chicago Public Schools.
In 1993, Phyllis Austin relocated to Chamblee, Georgia outside of Atlanta.  In Georgia, Mrs. Austin taught science in the Dekalb County School System and Atlanta Public Schools.  In 1998, Phyllis Austin earned her M.Ed. from Georgia State University.  She earned her Administrative endorsement in 2002 from the State University of West Georgia.
In 2003, Phyllis Austin was asked to serve as an administrator for an Atlanta Area Alternative School.  She recalls it as an eye-opening experience, realizing the epidemic of a lack of quality parenting skills, values, morals, wisdom, and knowledge, which causes the hindrance of children from succeeding in school and in life.  As she states, “…this constant and consistent behavior had me asking GOD, ‘How do you want me to help these children?’  God would answer, ‘Love and see only love.’ ”

In 2001, Ms. Austin founded IN MY SHOES, INC., a non-profit community educational organization that serves, supports, and educates parents on education. Phyllis Austin’s organization helps parents and students to resolve educational concerns and to achieve success. In 2003, she authored Daily Affirmations for the Students.

As a follow up, Ms. Austin wrote the book entitled, 'Parents, the Power Behind Your Child’s Success.’  It is the only book that teaches parents how to nurture and develop the wholeness of their child through education, spiritual guidance, and involved parenting. As one review states, ‘Finally, a person who dares to put education and spiritual guidance in the same book.’
      Ms. Austin’s latest book,
‘From Parent to POWER'  replaces the book Parents, the Power behind Your Child’s Success, and continues to be the only book that teaches parents how to nurture and develop the wholeness of their child through education, spiritual guidance, and involved parenting.   In her words,

"I've been working with parents for over 7 yrs, and unfortunately, many parents feel powerless as parents.  We want parents to know that they don't have to be confused, unsure or frustrated in parenting their children.  We definitely don't want parents to parent out of fear; a lot of parents are doing this.
We must admit that when we see children commit serious and violent crimes and exhibit those behaviors, something is wrong.  Too often, parents are afraid; they don't know what to do.  In II Timothy 1:7 it states, For GOD has not given us the Spirit of fear; but of Power and of Love, and of a Sound Mind.  Therefore, we have to teach and show parents that they have this spiritual power and love, and that they don't have to be confused and fearful.  It is one act to go to church, but too often parents have difficulties applying their spiritual guidance in their lives and to parenting their children.
In this book, From Parent to POWER, we teach and give parents strategies and principles to use in their parenting.  In addition, because many parents have to interact with schools, we teach parents about education and how to work effectively with the schools.

From Parent to POWER, includes more educational material like the Assignment Evaluation Tracking Grid, which helps parents identify and keep track of quality assignments given to their child.  In addition, readers’ initial reviews favor the increase of real case scenarios surrounding controversial topics like teenage prostitution/exploitation and negative spirits/energy in the home.   With more spiritual guidance verses and concepts to help parents, the book continues to be a success.
In January, 2008, Phyllis Austin started the Parents the Power’ Parent Support Group, which meets every Saturday at Hillside Center of Truth in Atlanta.  The objective of the support group is to show parents how to put, into action, effective parenting skills. What is unique about the ‘Parents the Power’ Parent Support Group is the educational component, which helps parents with educational concerns.
The goal of the Parents the Power’ Parent Support Group, is to decrease conflict in the home and create peace and an environment in the home, which allows children to thrive and parents to prosper in their relationships with their children.
Phyllis Austin is married and has two children.
